'Plan B' - Time for a change!

Well, it’s all change for 2018.
We have finally taken the plunge and bought ourselves a new boat! This time it is a catamaran. It’s a small 36 footer made by a company called Fountaine Pajot and the model is a Mahe for those who want to look it up. We’ve named her ‘Plan B’; not that we ever had a plan ‘A’ really. We have moored her temporarily in Spain as we still have White Rose to dispose of.

As a result, the year ahead looks a bit hectic. We hope to re-launch White Rose in March, sail her from Greece to the south of France and then transport her by road back to the UK in May, before continuing our journeys afloat, but this time, on ‘Plan B’. 

Our new boat has acres of accommodation so if anyone fancies joining us later in the year we would love to see you. We will be staying in the Med so it is only a very cheap flight from the UK if you are passing! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
It’s also only about three weeks now before my son, David and his family join us for a few days. before we are off to Denmark to meet up with some sailing friends, Ole and Anna-Grete.

I sense there are many problems and changes ahead this year but life would be boring without a challenge wouldn’t it!

Bridget writes …..

As 2017 came to an end, we were back in the UK for Christmas meeting up with family and friends. We rented a cottage on Romney Marsh and enjoyed walking out across the fields, even in the strong winds! I enjoyed catching up with Diana, a friend that I first met when my children were at play group, many years ago!! 
On Boxing Day Peter’s children and grand children came to ‘tea’ and it was great to see them altogether. We met up with Helen and Chris on a day trip to London which included a performance of ‘42nd Street’….a wonderful Christmas present enjoyed by all! It was lovely to see them, even though it was for a short time.
'Getting in the groove'

We bought our new boat in Majorca and we had a lovely time in the sunny weather getting to know her. The celebrations for Epiphany took place near the marina and it was fun to see the Three Kings arrive by fishing boat! We were constantly watching the weather, looking for a break in the strong northerly winds so that we could get the boat across to mainland Spain (cheaper moorings!!). The opportunity came quite unexpectedly and within an hour we were on our way….in the rain! We motored for about 22 hours and were glad to arrive at Sant Carles De La Rapita, about 2 hours drive south of Barcelona. It’s a very nice marina within easy walking distance of the town. The sun is shining and we are in jeans and t-shirts….in January! Somehow the good weather makes all the niggling problems of a new boat seem less frustrating!!

End of an Era

           Peter writes …… "Anyone for strawberries?" The last two months or so have been a bit of a whirlwind for us both. During that time we have prepared and launched White Rose; travelled nearly 1200 miles aboard her; had her mast and rear arch taken down; put her on the back of a lorry bound for the UK and finally, after re-assembling everything, put her up for sale. It’s taken quite a bit of organising but we have got there. We have owned her for 16 years and travelled nearly 15,000 miles, living on board for months at a time. She has seen us through many incredible adventures, taken us to many numerous countries and got us out of a few near-misses. It really is the end of an era for us.  Looking forward however, the next adventure begins!! After visiting friends and family we are now off to join our new boat ‘Plan B’. 03 Up and Away

Peter writes ….. Machu Pichu It’s been nearly three months since our last update but we haven’t stood still, in fact far from it! After leaving White Rose on the hard in Greece we packed our rucksacks and flew to warmer climes. Our destination, once again, was South America. This time it was Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. It’s impossible to describe in a few words just how incredible the whole trip was. We hiked up mountains that were over 5000metres above sea level; rode bikes down ‘Death Road’; travelled across the largest salt lakes in the world; spent time in pristine Amazon jungle; and, ended up exploring the Galápagos Islands both above and below sea level. When we left the UK we certainly never expected to see enormous flocks of flamingos standing in highly colourful but frozen lake-water on the high plains of Bolivia, nor did we anticipate snorkelling with seals, turtles and penguins that came up to our masks.
